Regional Science Centre, Guwahati—popularly known as the Science Museum—is a vibrant science destination located at Jawahar Nagar, Khanapara, about 11 km from Guwahati Railway Station. Established in 1994, it is the first science museum in Northeast India and is administered by India’s National Council of Science Museums.​

Key Attractions and Features

  • Permanent Galleries:
    Interactive science displays across physics, technology, biology, robotics, optics, and everyday science. These hands-on exhibits allow visitors to experiment, discover, and learn in a playful environment.​

  • Science Park:
    An open-air zone where children and adults can interact with outdoor installations demonstrating scientific principles in fun ways, including Mirror Magic, Fun Science, and the Butterfly Park.​

  • Prehistoric Park:
    Life-size models of dinosaurs and ancient species with interpretive boards explaining evolution and Earth's ancient life forms, turning outdoor walks into immersive science adventures.​

  • 3D Science Theatre:
    Northeast India’s first stereoscopic 3D digital cinema, showing entertaining and educational science films about volcanoes, the human body, the universe, and more. Multiple shows are held daily.​​

    Digital planetarium offers guided skywatching sessions—exploring the stars, planets, and celestial phenomena with powerful telescopes.​

  • Super Cold Show & Magic/Miracle Show:
    Live demonstrations, including dramatic experiments with liquid nitrogen and playful explorations of the science behind magic and superstition, designed to spur curiosity and banish myths.​​

  • Innovation Hub:
    Creative space for children (annual membership available) to develop experimental projects and participate in workshops under mentorship.​

  • Special Facilities:
    Cafeteria, museum shop, wheelchair access, restrooms, drinking water, locker room, Wi-Fi, and Braille information make visits convenient for all guests.​

Visitor Information

  • Timings: 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM (closed Holi & Diwali). 3D/planetarium shows run at fixed intervals during the day.​

  • Entry Fee:
    ₹30 (general), ₹25 (group), ₹15 (private school), ₹10 (govt. school)
    Additional: ₹20 for planetarium, ₹25 for 3D film, ₹10 for Super Cold Show.​

  • Photography: Allowed in outdoor zones; restricted in the planetarium/3D theatre.​

  • Location: Easily accessible by cab or auto from anywhere in Guwahati.
